An elderly man was charged with assault after allegedly spraying air freshener in the faces of two women because they were smoking, police in Canada said.

Hamilton police said that they have arrested the unidentified 67-year-old man for spraying the women with air freshener outside the front doors of the Dundurn Place on Monday.

The women who stay at the senior citizens center, were smoking outside the main entrance when the man came and sprayed them both in the face with air freshener without saying a word.

The women were shaken by the attack, and both suffered health problems due to their pre-existing conditions. The man told investigators that he was upset that the women were smoking so close to the main entrance.

It is illegal to smoke within 27 feet of the building’s entrance.

The 67-year-old man was charged with two counts of assault with a weapon.
