A man who attacked a woman and sexually assaulted her, was turned over to police by his mother after he went on the run.
21-year-old Tudor Tofoi brutally raped a stranger on the streets of the United Kingdom, and fled to Belgium.
He fled after he and an accomplice raped the woman as she made her way home from a night out with friends.
The mother of Tofoi, traveled to meet her son and then turned him in to police so he can face justice.
Detectives and the judge have praised the mother after her son was sentenced to 15 years in prison for the rape.
The victim, who is in her 20s, was out with her friends in Dover, Kent. While walking home in the early hours of the morning, she was approached by the two men who dragged her to a garage area and raped her.
It was only when the woman was able to grab her cellphone and scream that the two men fled the scene.
Police released surveillance video from the area and asked the public for help in identifying the suspects.
Tofoi’s mother recognized her son and decided to hand him over to police before he hurts another innocent person.
Tofoi claimed that the sex between himself and the victim had been consensual. However, the jury did not believe him and he was convicted at the Canterbury Crown Court in Kent.
He must spend at least 10 years in prison before being eligible for parole. He will also spend an additional 3 years on probation.
