A mother was arrested on a charge of assault after allegedly poisoning her daughter by adding urine to her IV line, police in Australia said.
Westmead police said that the mother assaulted her 9-year-old daughter, causing her to suffer kidney failure, and when the child was in the John Hunter Hospital, the mother added urine to her IV line.
The unidentified mother was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and endangering the child’s life. The mother denied the allegations.
The Child Abuse Squad began investigating the mother after the child was admitted to the hospital with life-threatening kidney failure and other serious medical conditions.
The Child Abuse Squad has petitioned the Family Court for custody of the child. If convicted, the mother faces up to ten years in prison.
