People flocked to the elaborate funeral of a rich man.
65-year-old Vittorio Casamonica, who was allegedly a mob boss in Rome, Italy, has died, and his family set up an elaborate funeral for him.
His body was taken to church in a black and gold carriage, which was pulled by six horses. A helicopter dropped rose petals from above and a band played the theme song from “The Godfather.”
More than 500 people attended the funeral at the San Giovanni Bosco church. At the entrance of the church, posters read: “You have conquered Rome, now conquer paradise.”
The funeral was broadcast live on television.
The over the top funeral angered many politicians who are trying to fight the mob. Mayor Ignazio Marino declared it “intolerable that funerals are used by the living to send Mafia messages.”
The assistant of Prime Minister Matteo Renzi, said that those responsible for the over-the-top funeral will be held accountable.
So far, the only one punished was the pilot of the helicopter that dropped the rose petals. His license was suspended.
