Police officer shoots and kills man for threatening him with a spoon

(Scroll down for video) A man who was covered in blood, was shot and killed by a police officer as he threatened him with a spoon in a hallway, police in Alabama said.

Tuscaloosa police said that 50-year-old Jeffory Ray Tevis, clashed with the officer in his home on Thursday.

Police officers were called to the scene after receiving a call about an assault. According to the police investigation, as the officer approached Tevis, he observed blood on his face and legs.

Tevis said that someone had attacked him in his home.

Investigators believe that the wounds were self-inflicted, and Tevis was either on drugs or suffering from a mental episode.

When Tevis became physically aggressive, the officer, who was not identified, responded by using a Taser. The gun was not effective.

Tevis then charged at the officer with a spoon, prompting the officer to shoot him twice. Tevis was pronounced dead at the scene.

The officer was treated for minor injuries. He has been on the force for 16 years.
