(Scroll down for video) A priest was arrested on a charge of sexual contact after groping a woman who was sleeping next to him on a plane during a flight, police in California said.

Now, 46-year-old Marcelo de Jesumaria has been sentenced to serve six months in jail after being convicted of sexual contact by a jury.

In addition to the prison sentenced, Jesumaria was also ordered to stay at home for six months after he completes his prison term.

According to the police investigation, Jesumaria touched the woman’s behind, breasts and private parts during the flight from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Los Angeles.

The woman, a model, woke up and reported the abuse to flight attendants and later an FBI agent. Jesumaria admitted to police that he likes to sit next to women, but he denied touching her.

Jesumaria got the seat next to the woman by telling the flight attendants that she is his wife. Jesumaria blamed the victim because she did not object to him touching her.

The woman claimed that she was sleeping at the time and couldn’t object.

Flight attendants reported that the woman was pale, trembling and on the verge of tears when she reported what had happened.

Flight attendants moved the woman to another seat, and the FBI arrested Jesumaria upon landing. The church said that it considers the actions of Jesumaria sinful and illegal.

Jesumaria will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
