A man was arrested on a charge of burglary after allegedly breaking into a store and taking cash from the register, police in China said.

Shaanxi police said that they have arrested the 36-year-old man identified as Wand, after being accused of breaking into photo supplies store owned by Xiao Wu, and covering himself with feces so that police officers wouldn’t want to touch him.

Wu told investigators that she noticed the suspect sneaking into her shop while she was taking a break outside. After Wu shouted for help, neighbors came and closed the door of the shop, locking the suspect inside.

When police opened the door, Wang was seen sitting on the floor and covered in feces. He was taken to the police station after being washed and cleaned.

Wang said that he was afraid of being caught or beaten, so he defecated and covered himself with the feces so that police officers wouldn’t want to stand near him or touch him.

Investigators determined that Wang had previously committed several robberies in the area. Wang was charged with theft after being found with 900 yuan ($140), which he took from the cash register of the store.
