(Scroll down for video) A man was arrested on a charge of theft after allegedly stealing thousands of cigarettes in order to fund his gambling addiction, police in Japan said.
Tokyo police said that they have arrested 48-year-old Koichiro Nishiyama, after being accused of stealing packs of cigarettes from more than 150 businesses.
According to the police investigation, Nishiyama used a crowbar to break a glass window of a shop in Chofu. The suspect entered the premises and took 55 cartons of cigarettes worth 233,000 yen ($1,944).
Investigators believe that Nishiyama has been behind more than 150 similar robberies in Tokyo. During the robbery spree, Nishiyama has stolen cigarettes worth about 10 million yen ($83,450).
During question, Nishiyama told police that he sold the stolen cigarettes and used the proceeds to fund his gambling addiction.
