A family was left horrified after taking a ride on an elephant.
Thailand is known for using elephants as a tourist attraction.
However, they have been criticized once again after an animal killed its keeper and ran off with family members who were still on its back during a trip to the jungle in Chiang Mai.
The elephant “went crazy” during the group trip, attacking and killing its driver before taking off into the jungle with three terrified tourists of China, police said.
The family members were rescued after other elephant keepers came to their aid. Police said the incident took place about 9:30 a.m., Colonel Thawatchai Thepboon, police commander of Mae Wang, said.
The family of three, a father, a mother and a child, took a ride on the back of the elephant when it suddenly attacked the keeper.
The elephant keeper was new and was not familiar with this particular elephant. The three frightened tourists were carried back to camp while sitting on the elephant’s back.
