Teenager rapes and kills woman because he was bored

A teenager raped and killed a stranger because he “had nothing better to do.”

The teenager of Iowa, told police that he sexually assaulted and killed the woman because “there was nothing better to do.”

He also said that he did not know the victim. He chose her at random. 19-year-old Helmon Betwell of Dubuque, told police that the woman “was just in the wrong place at the wrong time,” according to court documents.

Betwell, was charged with first-degree murder, first-degree sexual assault and two counts of third-degree theft.

Lt. Scott Baxter of the Dubuque Police Department, said that the woman was found without identifying information and with serious facial injuries.

The victim was later identified as 66-year-old Nancy Ann Krapfl.

A 65-year-old man called police after he saw the teenager assaulting the woman about 6:00 p.m. in a vacant property.

When Betwell saw the witness, he pulled up his pants and ran away, according to court documents. The woman was taken to UnityPoint Health Finley, where she died as a result of the assault, police said.

Betwell is being held on $1 million bail.
