(Scroll down for video) A teacher said that when her student took too long to return to class, she went to check on him.
As she looked outside in the parking lot, she saw her car missing from its spot.
Adrienne Friedrichs of Charlotte, North Carolina, said that her 11-year-old student stole her car and took it for a joyride.
The student’s family turned him in to police and told the teacher where her car was parked. It was abandoned on a dead-end street.
When the car was returned to Friedrichs, she was noticed that it was damaged. It had dents, scratches, gum on seats and dozens of cigarette butts on the floor.
The single mother said that her 2 children are unable to get into the car due to the heavy cigarette smoke inside as they suffer heart problems.
Friedrichs said that her son had open heart surgery last year, and has since recovered enough so that is able to play baseball.
However, she had $1,200 worth of baseball equipment in the back seat of her car, and it went missing after the car was stolen.
The 11-year-old student, who has not been identified, was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle.
