Police sergeant kidnaps 9 police officers because they threatened to expose his illegal oil operations

A police sergeant was arrested on a charge of kidnapping after allegedly kidnapping nine police officers because they threatened to expose his illegal activities, police in Nigeria said.

Lagos State police said that they have arrested 41-year-old Akowe Jacob, a sergeant at the police force, for conspiring with several other men to kidnap those who threatened to expose his illegal oil operations.

Along with Jacob, police arrested 36-year-old Godwin German, 23-year-old Tamarami Tunwa, and 29-year-old Mayibi Hazeez.

They were all charged with nine counts of kidnapping.

The victims were identified as Abdullahi Bature, Raymond Oriere, Usman Mohammed, Oguntimehin Kolawole, Tijani Jimoh, Elogbamen Timothy, Yakubu Aliyu, Usman Abdulkareem, and Dauda Mohammed.

All four defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges and they were denied bail. If convicted, each defendant faces up to 20 years in prison.
