(Scroll down for video) A young man was arrested on a charge of murder after using his vehicle to hit and kill a firefighter who was collecting donations on the side of a road, police in Michigan said.
Lansing police said that they have arrested 22-year-old Grant Taylor, after being accused of running over 35-year-old Dennis Rodeman as he was collecting donations for the fire department.
On Thursday, Taylor was charged with murder, failing to stop at the scene of an accident causing death and fleeing police. He was booked into jail, and has been denied bail.
According to the police investigation, Rodeman was participating in a fundraising campaign for the Muscular Dystrophy Association and the International Association of Firefighters when he was struck by Taylor’s vehicle on Wednesday afternoon.
There was some sort of dispute between Rodeman and Taylor before he was hit. Rodeman was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he died of his injuries.
Rodeman served in the U.S. Armed Forces in Iraq.
