(Scroll down for video) A young animal lover was killed by a drunk driver as she was helping a turtle cross a road, police in Texas said.
Denison police said that they have arrested 32-year-old Clyde Stanbery, after slamming into 20-year-old Lizette Lopez.
Stanbery was charged with manslaughter, kidnapping and assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the incident that unfolded on Sunday afternoon.
He was booked into the Grayson County Jail, and his bail was set at $115,000. According to the police investigation, Lopez was riding home after finishing her shift at Nick’s Restaurant.
While traveling on the Texoma Parkway, she saw a turtle on the side of the road. She got out of the car and helped the turtle cross the road.
As she was crossing the road, Stanbery drove his vehicle into the woman and fled from the scene. A few minutes later, Stanbery crashed his vehicle into a ditch.
Stanbery got out of his car, and used a machete to threaten the driver of another car.
