A young home attendant was arrested on a charge of rape after allegedly raping a disabled woman before fleeing the state and trying to kill himself, police in Washington said.
Seattle police said that they have arrested 20-year-old Samuel K. Njuguna, after being accused of raping the 65-year-old woman before going to Las Vegas, Nevada, where he was found in a hospital after attempting to commit suicide.
Njuguna was charged with rape, and his bail was set at $200,000. A worker at the group called the police after finding evidence that the woman had been sexually assaulted.
Police described the woman as blind, deaf and suffering from mental issues. The woman was taken to the Harborview Medical Center, where she is being treated.
Police officers who arrived at the scene of the crime, found a used condom. DNA on the condom matched the suspect. Five of the six men who work at the home voluntarily gave DNA samples to investigators.
Njuguna refused to give a sample and left the state after learning that the police were investigating.
