A nursing home employee was arrested on a charge of assault after allegedly choking an elderly woman because she didn’t go to bed at night, police in Japan said.
Toyonaka police said that they have arrested 34-year-old man, who was not identified, after being accused of slapping and choking the 70-year-old woman because she walked around in the facility during the night.
The incident unfolded at the Amille Toyonaka Hozumi nursing home.
During questioning, the nurse told police that he was upset at the woman because she kept walking around the facility during the night when she was supposed to sleep.
Police said that he choked and slapped her, causing the woman to suffer head injuries. Police also believe that the nurse assaulted the woman once before.
The president of Amille Toyonaka Hozumi, Tetsuya Kikuchi, apologized to the woman and her family, saying that he fired the employee immediately after learning about the assault.
