A man was found dead in a pothole after being buried alive by construction workers.

Residents in India, made the gruesome discovery over the weekend.

They saw part of an arm sticking out from under freshly poured molten tar in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.

Community members blocked off the road to remove the fully dressed body.

Police identified the man as Latori Barman, a farm worker. Police said that Barman seemed to have been walking home drunk on Friday night, when he fell into the pothole in the middle of the road.

“It was very dark. He did not see the pothole,” said Katni’s police chief Gourav Rajput.

Construction workers repairing the road that night, did not see Barman lying in the hole. They filled the hole with tar and then flattened it with a roller, burying the drunk man alive.

In the morning, people spotted Barman’s arm. Police arrested the 2 worker who repaired the road. They were charged with culpable homicide over the death of Barman.

Videos of the rescue were uploaded to the Internet. The video shows people using shovels to dig the man out from the hole as many people watched. The man was dressed in a nice shirt and pants.
