A man who was looking for quick and easy cash, broke into a store and stole a lottery dispenser.
41-year-old Richard D. Morgan of Slocomb, Alabama, was arrested on Tuesday, after he stole the dispenser with many lottery tickets from a liquor store and later tried to collect the winnings.
The Holmes County Sheriff’s Office responded to a break-in at the Big Daddy Liquor Store around 1:00 a.m.
Deputies found the front door of the store busted and the lottery ticket dispenser missing. The machine was equipped with lottery tickets valued at $7,505.
The Florida Lottery office was notified of the incident and the stolen tickets were canceled.
Police said that in the morning about 9:30 a.m., Morgan entered the store and tried to cash in the winning tickets.
A store employee called police who arrived at the store and arrested Morgan for robbery.
The suspect allegedly confessed to the crime. Officers searched his house and recovered the remaining lottery tickets.
Morgan was charged with burglary, dealing in stolen property, resisting arrest with violence and battery on a law enforcement officer.
