A woman was arrested on a charge of false representation to make gain after accepting government disability benefits despite being healthy, police in the United Kingdom said.
Now, 32-year-old Joy Taylor of Newton Aycliffe, has been sentenced to serve 14 months in jail, which was suspended for 1 year, after admitting to stealing government disability benefits.
According to the police investigation, Joy Taylor claimed that her mother, 64-year-old Linda Taylor, was her caretaker as she was disabled following a car accident.
Linda Taylor was sentenced to serve 12 months in jail, which was suspended for a year. The court heard that Joy Taylor accepted 95,000 pounds ($145,397) in benefits despite not being entitled to the cash.
Investigators found pictures on Joy Taylor’s Facebook page, which showed her wearing a short skirt in a bar. She was also seen attending festivals, proving that she was not disabled.
