A burglar called police after getting trapped inside a closed supermarket while stealing items early in the morning, police in the United Kingdom said.
Essex police said that the incident unfolded early on Saturday morning at the Asda supermarket in Basildon.
The 40-year-old thief, who was not identified, was forced to call police for help after getting trapped by a safety device of the supermarket gas station.
Police said that they also received calls from people who heard the thief screaming for help from inside the building. Police officers who arrived at the scene for the thief stuck inside the building.
Firefighters were called to the scene, and they freed the man around 4:30 a.m. The man was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was treated before being arrested on charge of theft.
