A 4-year-old boy is lucky to be alive after an 8-year-old boy used first aid techniques he was taught at school to pull him out from the bottom of a pool, police in Australia said.
8-year-old Judd Greenham of Altona North, is being praised after using the first aid training learned in school to save 4-year-old Matthew Sagar.
According to the police investigation, Greenham was playing at the pool in Port Douglas while on a family vacation when he saw Sagar slip on a step.
Sagar hit his head and fell unconscious to the bottom of the pool.
Although there were five adults watching the shallow pool around 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, it happened so quickly that Judd was the only person who saw the incident.
Judd used the first aid techniques taught at school to pull Sagar out of the water. He put his hand under Sagar’s nose to check if he was breathing.
Judd then told his mother to call an ambulance as Sagar was not breathing. Paramedics arrived at the scene, and Sagar slowly regained consciousness.
Doctors said that Sagar was just five seconds away from dying.
