A drunk man was arrested on a charge of drunk driving after leading police on a high-speed chase before telling them that his dog was behind the wheel, police in Florida said.
The Manatee County Sheriff’s Office said that they have arrested 26-year-old Reliford Cooper III, after driving drunk, leading police on a high-speed chase and hiding inside the bathroom of a church.
Copper was charged with drunk driving, resisting arrest and leaving the scene of an accident. He was booked into jail, and his bail was set at $26,000.
According to the police investigation, officers began chasing the car driven by Cooper after the vehicle was seen speeding around 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
Cooper drove through a stop sign and two ditches before crashing into a house. Cooper jumped from the car and tried to hide in the bathroom of the nearby church, but was chased away by members.
Cooper smelled of alcohol and marijuana. He first complained that the high-speed chase was not fast enough, and then said that his dog was behind the wheel.
