(Scroll down for video) Two sisters were left traumatized after a man entered their home and attempted to kill them with a knife.

Bre and Kayli Lasley recently moved into their new apartment in Salt Lake City, Utah. However, their tenancy was short lived.

While sitting in her room with an open window, Bre, 27, suddenly saw a man, who was identified as 48-year-old Robert Berger, entering her room through the window.

Berger, who is 6 feet 2 inches tall, used a broom and a chair to get into the house. He warned Bre to cooperate with him or he would kill her and her younger sister Kayli, 22.

Bre began screaming and her sister came upstairs to her aid. However, Berger pushed the younger sister down the stairs. Her head hit a wall, leaving a hole in it.

When Berger attempted to throw Bre off the stairs, she grabbed him and they both fell together. Berger got on top of the woman and stabbed her multiple times in the stomach and legs while Kayli ran to get help.

A police officer found Berger with the knife at the victim’s neck. Berger was ordered to drop the knife before he was shot once in the head and killed by the officer.

Berger had an extensive criminal history, including arrests for aggravated robbery and aggravated kidnapping, according to court records.

The women now live with their parents as they recover from the physical and emotional trauma.
