A man who was declared dead, woke up as he was being prepped for an autopsy.
The 45-year-old man was taken to a hospital after he was found unconscious at a bus station in Mumbai, India.
Doctors said that he suffered from an ear infection and malnutrition. He was taken to a hospital by police and was pronounced dead by a senior doctor, according to witnesses at the Lokmanya Tilak General Hospital.
Chief Medical Officer Dr. Rohan Rohekar allegedly told staff to take the body to the morgue immediately, which is against hospital rules that requires bodies to be held in emergency room for a 2 hour “cooling off” period where it is monitored in case it shows signs of life.
However, as the body was being prepared for the post-mortem exam, two workers were surprised to see his stomach moving up and down.
The man awoke as the staff rushed him back to the emergency room for life-saving treatment.
Dr. Rohekar has been accused of destroying the death report after learning of his mistake. Police officers who had come to the hospital to file an accidental death report, were denied access to the reports.
Police are still investigating the incident.
