74-year-old Karl Andree was sentenced to 12 months behind bars and 350 lashes after being caught with homemade alcohol.
Police found the alcohol, which is illegal in the country, after Andree was pulled over while driving in the city of Jeddah.
Andree lived in the Middle East for 25 years, while working in the oil industry.
Andree, who has seven grandchildren, suffered three types of cancers and he has asthma. The family does not believe that he will survive the 350 lashes.
