A hospital worker is being investigated after she was found living with her mother’s decomposing body in her home, police in Australia said.
Sydney police said that the body of 83-year-old Noreen Peacock, was found in the bedroom of her daughter’s home by real estate agents.
According to the police investigation, after Noreen Peacock died, 48-year-old Melissa Peacock closed the bedroom door and used air fresheners to cover up the smell.
She did not inform anyone about her mother’s death and carried on with her life by living in expensive hotels using her mother’s money.
Melissa had been missing for several days after the discovery of her mother’s body. She was living in expensive hotels, including the Four Seasons, Hilton, and Marriott, before being arrested.
She was accused of fraud, operating an account without authorization and not reporting a death.
Investigators believe that the elderly woman could have been dead for up to six months, and there were indications that she died of hypothermia.
Melissa was a hospital receptionist and was her mother’s primary caretaker, police said.
