A man was arrested on a charge of theft after allegedly stealing a taxi because he didn’t want to walk home from a hospital, police in Iowa said.
Des Moines police said that they have arrested 26-year-old Luis Orellana-Rivera, after he was discharged from the Mercy Medical Center around 6:00 a.m. on Friday.
According to the police investigation, when Orellana-Rivera walked out of the hospital, he found an unoccupied taxi with the keys in the ignition.
Orellana-Rivera entered the taxi and drove off. The owner of the taxi alerted police, and the vehicle was found around 30 minutes later.
Police also found the key to the taxi on Orellana-Rivera.
During questioning, Orellana-Rivera told police that he stole the vehicle because he did not want to walk six blocks to his home.
Orellana-Rivera was charged with theft and was booked into the Polk County Jail. His bail was set at $5,000.
