A woman was arrested on a charge of murder after allegedly killing her husband and young daughter in order to stop them from becoming vampires, police in the United Kingdom said.

London police said that they have arrested 36-year-old Shelley Christopher, after being accused of stabbing 42-year-old Richard Brown and her 4-year-old daughter Sophia, before inserting wooden objects in their bodies.

Christopher also attacked another child and stabbed her with a pencil, but she survived. She was charged with two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder.

Christopher pleaded not guilty to the charges by reason of insanity.

According to the police investigation, Christopher told a psychiatrist that on the day of the murders, she received a signal from a light bulb, instructing her to kill her family in order to prevent the world from being taken over by vampires.

The signal came from the light bulb in the ceiling.

After she had attacked her husband and daughters with a knife, the light bulb told her to insert wood in their bodies in order to prevent them from becoming vampires.

A psychiatrist found that Christopher had been suffering from a psychotic illness, most likely from paranoid schizophrenia at the time of the killings.
