(Scroll down for video) A former police officer was detained on a charge of murder after allegedly stabbing a teacher with a machete before jumping in front of a speeding train, police in New Jersey said.
Midland Park police said that 44-year-old Arthur Lomando used the machete to stab 48-year-old Suzanne Bardzell, as she was sitting in her car in front of her home.
Around 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, Lomando jumped in front of the train in Manhattan. He suffered serious injuries to his head and legs, and was taken to Harlem Hospital.
Bardzell and Lomando were together for three years after meeting on the Internet. She recently filed for a restraining order, which he violated immediately.
She was in her car when Lomando confronted her with the machete. He broke the window of her car and attacked her in the driveway.
She was still inside the car when police arrived at the scene.
Bardzell left behind two teenage children, ages 18 and 16.
Lamondo was an employee for the New York Police Department for 10 years.
