A pastor was arrested, charged and convicted of stealing church funds to help his wife with her singing career.
Pastor Kong Hee and 5 church members were found guilty of misusing church money.
He is accused of using the money to fund his wife’s failing pop star career.
His wife, Ho Yeow Su, is a well-known pop-singer in Singapore. She is best known by her stage name Sun Ho.
Yeow Sun and her husband, opened the City Harvest Church. They have 30,000 members in Singapore and elsewhere.
However, when her career began to fail, her husband spent $37 million on his wife’s pop-star career. Sun worked with performers such as Wyclef Jean, Diane Warren, David Foster and Carole Bayer Sager.
After being found guilty of the charges, the pastor thanked his congregants for their constant support throughout the 5 years of his ordeal.
“By now, you would have heard that the judge has rendered his decision in the long-running trial. This is a difficult time for me, and especially for my family, just as it is for the other co-accused persons, as was the case throughout these past three years of court trial, and the earlier two years of investigation,” he wrote on Facebook.
“I have put my faith and my all in God, and trust that whatever the outcome, He will use it for good in His time and in His way. My family and I are continually assured and strengthened by the love and support shown to us during this entire time. We thank you for your prayers and encouragement, as they mean a lot to us,” he added.
The pastor and co-defendants are facing a 20 year prison term when they are sentenced next month.
