Police are looking to arrest a married poet on a charge of defamation after allegedly admitting to tattooing the president’s face on his private parts, police Myanmar said.
Yangon police said that an arrest warrant was issued against 23-year-old Maung Saungkha, after a post he wrote on Facebook, saying that his wife was disgusted by the tattoo he got on his private parts.
The post was noticed by the employees of President U Thein Sein, and a complaint was filed with the police. Police went to the poet’s home, but he already fled.
Saungkha was charged with violating Article 66(d) of the Telecommunications Act. If convicted, he faces up to three years in prison.
Saungkha, who runs the Poetry Lover Organisation, denied the charge of defamation, saying that he had no intention to defame the president by getting the tattoo.
Saungkha also claims that the government is afraid of poets because of their free spirit.
