A billionaire was arrested on a charge of robbery after allegedly robbing a bank and using the cash to invest in real estate, police in China said.
Zhumadian police said that they have arrested 53-year-old Shi Erqun, after being accused of robbing $450,000 and using the cash to turn himself into a billionaire.
According to the police investigation, Erqun was working as a construction worker at the time of the robbery. He was unhappy with his income and decided to rob a bank along with four other poor workers.
Erqun led the other guys into the bank and they left with $450,000. On their way out of the bank, they shot and injured two people.
The successful bank robbery took just 5 minutes. Erqun then invested the cash in real estate, and he earned billions of dollars.
It took police 16 years to track down Erqun. Erqun used a hammer to break a bullet-proof window. Police interviewed all people who bought hammers leading up to the bank robbery.
After 16 years, police narrowed down the field of possible suspects to one.
