A man was arrested on a charge of animal cruelty after his car was found to contain 50 dead dogs following a collision, police in China said.
Henan police said that they have arrested the young man, who was not identified, following the car crash after pedestrians who came to help, found dozens of dead dogs in the vehicle.
According to the police investigation, the man was driving his black car on Friday around 7:30 a.m., when it collided with another vehicle on State Road 105.
After the collision, the driver quickly fled from the scene.
Passersby who rushed to the scene to help the crash victims, noticed a foul odor emanating from the black car. They opened the trunk of the car, and found about 50 dead dogs.
Police officers arrived at the scene and removed the dead dogs.
One dog was still alive. Police located the driver and arrested him on a charge of animal cruelty. Investigators believe that the dogs were on their way to being sold for human consumption.
