A man was arrested following a failed attempt to kill himself after allegedly killing his wife while she was with another man.
31-year-old Amauri Perdomo of the Bronx, New York, who is accused of killing his wife, tried to shoot himself with a gun, which was stolen from the home of a police officer.
Perdomo’s brother, who is a New York Police Department (NYPD) Auxiliary cop, took him to a police station to surrender.
Perdomo is the main suspect in the murder of his wife, 27-year-old Jennifer Ortiz. He allegedly shot his wife after seeing her in a car with another man on Morris Avenue in Fordham Heights around 7:35 a.m.
While his brother Angel Perdomo and sister Alexandra Perdomo were taking him to the police station, he pulled a 0.9 mm Glock and tried to shoot himself in the head.
The incident occurred near Webster Avenue and East 201 Street. Alexandra jumped on her brother to prevent him from shooting himself, police said. He fired a shot, but missed, and no one was injured.
Angel Perdomo called police, who took his brother into custody. Perdomo was charged with murder for the death of his wife.
The gun he used was allegedly stolen from the home of a Bronx police officer during a robbery. It was not immediately clear whether the weapon was also used to kill Ortiz.
