A woman was rushed to a hospital after being set on fire by two men while sitting on a park bench at a children’s playground, police in Germany said.
Flensburg police said that the incident unfolded on Monday around 7:00 p.m., as children were playing in the park.
Witnesses at the scene said that watched in horror as the 40-year-old woman, who was not identified, burst into flames while sitting on the bench.
They also saw two men escaping from the scene.
The woman did not say a word or make a sound as the flames engulfed her. The life of the woman was saved when a man took off his jacket and used it to choke the flames.
Police and an ambulance arrived on the scene, and the woman was taken to a nearby hospital before being transferred to a burn unit Lubeck, where she is said to be in critical condition.
Investigators said that they believe the woman wanted to die. At the park, she asked two men to douse her with gasoline and set her on fire.
