A woman was arrested on a charge of murder after allegedly cutting open a pregnant woman and stealing her baby, police in Mexico said.

Tijuana police said that they have arrested 34-year-old Nancy Carrasco, after being accused of killing 23-year-old Luvineydi Yasmin Velazquez Thomas.

According to the police investigation, Carrasco was 6 months pregnant when she suffered a miscarriage. The woman decided not tell anyone about her miscarriage and pretended to still be pregnant.

She continued going to doctor appointments, where she met Thomas. One day, Carrasco decided to invite Thomas to her home.

When she arrived, Carrasco strangled Thomas, and cut out the baby from her. Carrasco then admitted herself to a nearby hospital, where she claimed to have just given birth.

However, doctors became suspicious as Carrasco did not have any symptoms of a woman who had just given birth. Police went to Carrasco’s home, and were shocked to find the dead body of Thomas.

Carrasco then confessed to the crime, saying that she was terrified her husband would leave her if she did not bring home a baby.

Carrasco was charged with first-degree murder.
