(Scroll down for video) A teenage girl in Florida, was devastated to receive a punishment of detention for hugging her friend in school.
The incident unfolded after the 13-year-old girl identified as Ella, an eighth-grade student at Jackson Heights Middle School in Oviedo, hugged a boy in school.
Ella was warned about the hugging in school as the Seminole County School District bans inappropriate touching.
The mother of Ella, Kathy Fishbough, feels that hugging or holding hands should not be considered inappropriate touching, and therefore, her daughter should not have received a punishment.
The school defended the punishment, saying that detention is given for repeat offenders, and Ella was warned last month about the inappropriate touching.
Ella said that she is now afraid to touch anybody in school.
