A brazen thief was arrested on a charge of theft after allegedly stealing a cellphone from a prosecutor in a courthouse, police in Florida said.
Miami police said that they have arrested 32-year-old Dachel Gonzalez, after being accused of stealing the cellphone of Assistant State Attorney Chiaka Ihekwaba.
He was charged with one count of third-degree felony grand theft.
According to the police investigation, Ihekwaba and defense attorney Jose Herrera were talking while riding the courthouse escalator when a man suddenly pushed past them.
Ihekwaba checked her purse and realized that her iPhone 6 was missing. Ihekwaba and Herrera ran after the thief who ran out of the Richard E. Gerstein Justice Building.
The commotion attracted the attention of police officer Kevin Millan and defense lawyer Juan de Jesus Gonzalez, and they detained the thief.
Defense attorneys Gonzalez and Herrera are now scheduled to testify against the suspect in court.
