(Scroll down for video) A man was arrested on a charge of murder after allegedly killing his girlfriend during an argument, police in California said.
28-year-old Hugo Castro of San Jose, walked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail, where he confessed to killing 27-year-old Alessandra Barla.
However, instead of arresting him for the murder, officials sent him away, saying that it was a police matter and not something that the jail should handle.
Luckily, Castro went to the San Jose Police Department and led them to the body of his girlfriend. Police are now questioning officials at the jail to determine why the murderer was sent away instead of being arrested.
According to the police investigation, Castro told Santa Clara jail employees that he wanted to surrender. He passed a note through the glass window, claiming that he was aware of the location of a dead body.
Jail employees told investigators that at no point during the exchange did Castro mentioned that he was responsible for killing his girlfriend.
As a result, he was sent away. Barla was discovered strangled and stabbed to death.
