A man was arrested for rape after he was seen on video using the victim’s credit card, police in New York said.
New York City police said that on Wednesday approximately 7:30 p.m., a 26-year-old woman was jogging in East River Park near Cherry Street, when the suspect, who was on a bicycle, approached her and motioned to her to be quiet.
The victim turned and ran in the opposite direction. However, the suspect grabbed her by the hair, put his arm around her neck and dragged her to the amphitheater by the park’s Grand Street footbridge, where he raped her.
When he was done, the suspect stole the victim’s credit card and fled the scene. The victim was taken to Beth Israel Hospital, where she was treated and released.
The suspect who was identified as 28-year-old Paul Niles, surrendered to police after videos showed him using the victim’s credit card at a nearby store.
