A teenage mother was arrested for beating her daughter to death because she did not want to eat her lunch.

Prosecutors in Chicago, Illinois, said that 18-year-old Jazmine Jones, punched her 2-year-old daughter Elliana Claiborne several times, because she did not eat her noodles.

Jones is being held in lieu of $1 million bond on a charge of child abuse in connection with the death of her 2-year-old daughter.

Jones’ boyfriend, who is not the father of the child, later told prosecutors that she punched the girl in the stomach several times.

He told police that when the girl complained of stomach pain, Jones gave her laxatives and juice, but she refused to take the child to a doctor.

Jones put her daughter to sleep and she was found unresponsive in the morning. The child was taken to the St. Bernard Hospital, where she was declared dead.

Assistant Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Przekota said at a bond hearing that the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services took the toddler from Jones last year.

DCFS officials were investigating the biological parents for the abuse and neglect of Elliana. However, they did not explain why Elliana was returned to Jones.
