A man pretended to be a good Samaritan and offered to help an elderly woman before raping her, police in Tennessee said.

Police in Nashville, have arrested the man accused of raping and nearly strangling the disabled 60-year-old woman.

The woman, who is on dialysis and uses a wheelchair, told police that she was sitting on a city bus with bags of groceries when Reginald Eugene Gregory, 50, offered to help carry them to her home.

When they got inside the woman’s home, Gregory allegedly attacked her.

Police said that Gregory pushed the victim out of her wheelchair. While on the ground, the defendant began to choke her around the neck with both hands.

Gregory then allegedly dragged the woman to her bedroom, where he raped her. After he left her apartment, the victim called police.

Officers found the man in a nearby parking lot and arrested him for the crime. Police discovered that Gregory was already on probation for a previous sexual offense.

The suspect was arrested in 2003 for rape, and was sentenced for aggravated assault. He also has a conviction of rape for a crime committed in 2012.

Gregory is being held $250,000 bail.
