A drunk man was arrested on a charge of drunk driving after allegedly calling police to unlock his car and driving off in front of officers, police in Florida said.
Vero Beach police said that they have arrested 22-year-old Sunil Nair, after being accused of driving under influence of alcohol in front of police officers.
Nair was charged with one count of driving under the influence and was booked into jail. According to the police investigation, on Sunday around 2:00 a.m., Nair called police to say that he was locked out of his car.
Police officers arrived at the scene and found Nair outside his locked vehicle with the engine running. He smelled of alcohol and stumbled.
The police opened the car and shut off the engine. Nair told the officers that he was drinking in a bar that he had too much alcohol.
He promised that he was not going to drive to his home. A few minutes later, he returned and got into his car while police were still at the scene.
Nair drove to a nearby McDonald’s and police followed him from behind. When Nair tried to pay the McDonald’s worker with his driver’s license, police arrested him on suspicion of drunk driving.
Police asked Nair to perform a sobriety test before being arrested on a charge of driving under the influence. A test showed that Nair’s blood alcohol content level was at 0.17, which is more than twice the legal limit.
