Police are looking to arrest a mother on a charge of child abuse after allegedly trying to drown her young daughter in a river because she got bad grades in school, police in China said.

Chaozhou police said that they learned about the incident after a video of the attack went viral on the Internet.

On the video, the mother can be heard yelling at her daughter as she pushed her head under the surface of the river. After a few moments, the mother pulled her daughter out of the river only to push her back in.
