A man of Virginia, was surprised when he was booked into jail for being married to more than one woman at a time.
33-year-old Frank E. Blake Jr., was in prison when he was brought before a judge in Henrico, for new charges of bigamy.
Blake’s legal problems began when his second and third wives showed up to visit him at the Henrico County prison, at the same time.
The problem was that he had not divorced his second wife before marrying his third wife, and he was still in contact with both of them.
When police investigated, they learned that he was not divorced from his first wife before he married his second wife.
However, the second wife was not misled as she admitted to police that she knew her husband was not divorced, but she saw documents that his first wife had already filed for divorce before they were married.
Blake pleaded no contest to a charge of bigamy. Henrico County Circuit Judge L.A. Harris Jr. sentenced him to 18 months in prison for the crime.
Before sentencing, Balke told the court that he did not realize that he was committing a felony by marrying more than one woman. “I didn’t know I was breaking the law. You can put me on a lie detector,” he said.
