Passengers of an Air France flight freaked out after finding a ticking time bomb in a toilet while flying from Mauritius to France, police in Kenya said.
Police said that the object resembled a stopwatch, which was mounted in a cardboard box.
It was found in the Boeing 777 bathroom before the plane was diverted to Mombasa. No explosives were found in the device.
Six passengers were questioned about the object, but no charges have been filed. All 459 passengers and 14 crew members landed safely.
Flight AF463 left Mauritius around 9:00 p.m., and was due to arrive in Paris around 5:50 a.m.
At first, passengers thought that the emergency landing was due to a technical problem with the toilet, but once the plane landed, they were told that there was a suspicious device in the toilet.
The object made ticking sounds and looked like a pipe bomb.
