Police are looking to arrest two girls on a charge of assault after allegedly pressing the emergency button of an escalator for fun, causing an elderly woman to fall and break her bones, police in the United Kingdom said.
Stockport police said that after the teens pressed the emergency button of the escalator in Asda, the 79-year-old woman fell forward and suffered broken bones, cuts and bruises.
The incident unfolded on Friday afternoon in the Asda located on Warren Street. The elderly woman was taken to a hospital, where she is scheduled to have surgery.
The woman broke her two wrists, and had numerous cuts and bruises on both legs. She also suffered from cuts to her forehead that required 15 stitches.
An Asda spokesman said that the surveillance video was handed over to the police. Police said that they would like to speak with two teenage girls who were seen on the escalator at the time of the incident.
The video shows the girls pressing the emergency stop button as part of a prank.
