A brazen sex offender stole a package that was delivered to a police station, police in Maryland said.
The Western District Police Station said that they have arrested 53-year-old Michael Joseph Leonard, after being accused of stealing a package that was delivered to them last week.
Leonard, who lives in the 1700 block of Gunwood Place, was charged with count of theft.
According to the police investigation, the theft was reported to the police one day after an employee contacted the delivery service about the package.
The delivery service confirmed that they delivered the package the previous evening.
Police officers reviewed their surveillance system, which showed the delivery driver putting the package at the door of the police station.
Police also saw Leonard, who was sitting in the lobby to renew his sex offender registration. Surveillance video showed Leonard collecting the package after the delivery driver left the building.
He then left the building. Leonard later returned to the station to be processed as a registered sex offender. Officers found the package in Leonard’s house.
