A mother of three children was killed by a police officer who slipped while he was trying to shoot her barking dog.

The 34-year-old mother of Iowa, was accidentally shot and killed in front of her young son.

Burlington police officer Jesse Hill, was responding to a domestic dispute when he slipped and fell, causing his gun to go off.

Police were called for a domestic dispute after Autumn Steele, got into a fight with her husband Gabriel.

Steele has just been released from the Des Moines county jail, where she had spent the night after being charged with domestic assault the previous day.

When the officer arrived at the 100 block of South Garfield Avenue, Gabriel walked away from the house with the couple’s 3-year-old son in his arms.

Steele was chasing after him, clinging to him and hitting him in the back of the head, according to the police report.

While the officer was trying to get the situation under control, the family’s dog began running towards him.

Officer Hill was heard on his body cam, ordering Steele to get her dog before falling and firing two shots. Steele was hit in the stomach and was rushed to a hospital, where she later died.

After a complete investigation was done by the Iowa Department of Criminal Investigation, it was determined that Hill should not face disciplinary action for the accidental shooting. The officer has since returned to active duty.

An animal hearing board voted that the family’s 7-year-old German shepherd-collie mix named Sammy, was not dangerous and was returned to the family.
