(Scroll down for video) Police were dispatched to a home in New Jersey, after a young girl called them over an Elf on the Shelf that fell to the ground.

Police said that 7-year-old Isabelle LaPeruta of Old Bridge, was concerned when she threw her ball and the Elf on the Shelf fell down because according to a popular children’s book, the magic of Christmas disappears if the Elf is touched.

The girl said that she then became nervous, and asked the dispatcher not to send an officer to her house because she really only wanted to call her father, but in panic she accidentally dialed 911.

A police officer responded to the home for a welfare check and found the child crying.

Her mother, Lynanne, who had been taking a nap at the time, said that she woke up to find her daughter trying to send the officer away from the house.

Isabelle admitted that she called 911 after she panicked when the Elf fell to the ground after it was hit while she was playing with her ball.

The officer contacted headquarters and said that Isabella apologized for calling 911.

Old Bridge Police Lt. Joseph Mandola explained that to Isabelle, the situation was an emergency, and that is why it was fine for her to call the police.

“To her, it was an emergency when she touched the Elf, and she’s going to ruin Christmas, so that was her emergency. In her mind, she did right, and it was fine with us,” Mandola said.
